Roger “Skip” Beehler lives in Springfield, Ohio with his partner , Pam Harris. He began volunteering with BCWA’s Saturday crew under Brother Don Geiger in 2009. The work was mostly cutting honey suckle with chainsaw and loppers using quart bottle sprayers with herbicide.
He worked most under Dr. James Amon as he worked many of the other days of the week too! They used the 50 gallon sprayer atop of the a.t.v. and fought Reed Canary Grass and honey suckle in the area now called Dave Nolin Reserve. They maintained the man-made wetlands in the Beaver Creek Wildlife Area. They cut honey suckle and maintained trails, planted and maintained trees at Fairborn Marsh, now named the James P. Amon Biodiversity Reserve.
Skip worked with Jim Schneider building boardwalk with a new “continuous stringer” design at Koogler Reserve beginning in 2009. Skip and Jim began mowing with the purchase of the old John Deere tractor and a J.D. flail mower. BCWA then purchased the BCS walk behind tractor with several attachments including a chipper and a flail mower. BCWA traded up on the John Deere tractor and the new Kubota added loader capabilities to the mowing, chipping, and augering that existed.
Skip retired from City of Xenia Public Service Dept. in 2007 after working in the water and wastewater divisions for twenty three years. Prior to that, he worked in Greene and Clinton counties with special needs adults. Skip graduated from the Ohio State University in 1975 with a B.A. in Social Sciences. During his work career, he also volunteered in off hours spending twenty-three years as an E.M.T.; eighteen years as a paramedic; and seventeen years as a firefighter serving Greene County first with Greene County Rescue and later with Miami Twp. Fire/Rescue.
