Invasive Control at Zimmerman Prairie

  • Location: Zimmerman Prairie State Nature Preserve
  • Time: 9:00am – 12:00pm
  • Activity – Cutting narrow-leaved cattail stalks or teasel control
  • Parking: Bales Arena (in the back near the bike path)
  • Tools: Wear waterproof boots and work gloves, Bring manual hedge clippers, machetes, or loppers, we have extra to borrow
  • Notes: Cutting green stalks of the invasive narrow-leaved cattails at ground level, using manual hedge clippers, machetes, loppers or pruners. Bring your tool of choice! We are working into the wetter areas of the site, so waterproof boots are recommended.
  • Notes: For teasel control, you will be slicing the taproot with specially designed shovels, which will be provided.

All field volunteers must sign the BCWA liability waiver. If you have not signed it for 2024, please Submit Yours Online.
