13 April : Knollwood Garden Center's Spring Garden Party

Event: Knollwood Garden Center's Spring Garden Party
When: Saturday, April 13th
Location: 3766 Dayton-Xenia Road in Beavercreek Click here for directions

For many years, Knollwood Garden Center www.knollwoodgardens.com has helped BCWA by providing us with the opportunity to sell hotdogs, BBQ, coffee, soft drinks and more to their patrons. Best of all, Knollwood pays for all the food, so we just show up, handle the cooking and collect the proceeds. The prices are set by Knollwood to offer their customers a great deal on lunch and snacks. It's a great opportunity that benefits a great local business and its customers, the BCWA and ultimately the wetlands! Did we mention it was FUN!!!

Event is free and open to the public. Volunteers needed. Please contact BCWA at 937-320-9042 or by email at admin@beavercreekwetlands.org for more information.

May is American Wetlands Month, and the month when the Beaver Creek Wetlands Association celebrates its many accomplishments at its 25th Annual Membership Meeting.

We are excited to feature Robert C. Glotzhober, Retired Senior Curator, Natural History, Ohio Historical Society.

Bob Glotzhober finds almost any area of natural history of interest and enjoys sharing his enthusiasm for the wonders of nature with groups. He worked for 33 years with the Ohio Historical Society until his recent retirement. During that time he planned educational programs in natural history, wrote text for several exhibits, authored numerous articles for both popular and scientific audiences, coordinated land management at OHS's natural areas, led public hikes, gave educational talks, was involved with recovery of bones from Pleistocene mammals, and coordinated a state-wide survey of dragonflies and damselflies.

Previous to coming to OHS he spent three years working as a naturalist for the National Wildlife Federation, one year as a naturalist with the Michigan Audubon Society, and three years teaching high school biology and general science in New York and Minnesota. Glotzhober has a BS in Education from Concordia Teacher's College in Seward, Nebraska and a MS in Zoology from Michigan State University. He is a member of several local, state and national conservation and scientific organizations.

In 1989 he was appointed by the governor to the Ohio Natural Areas Advisory Council, and was reappointed every three years through 2004, and acted as Council chair for more than seven years. He served on the Federal Recovery Team for the Hine's Emerald Dragonfly. In 2008, he was awarded the Wildlife Diversity Conservation Award by the Ohio Division of Wildlife for his work with dragonflies and damselflies in Ohio. In 2011, he was given the Distinguished Professional Interpreter Award by the Great Lakes Region of the National Association for Interpretation.
