Spirits of the Marsh: A Look at the Marsh in the Setting Sun
Saturday, August 14 7:30 to 9:30 PM
Fairborn Marsh has many strange and wonderful surprises. We plan to get wet and muddy on this one in a once in a lifetime excursion. We will look for beaver, examine their dams and lodges and then take a closer look at some of the curious parts of their ecosystem. We will walk in water and mud over our knees to see if we can find swamp gas bubbling from the decaying vegetation. I wonder if that stuff is flammable?? I will bring a lighter! You will find out what it is like to live IN this unique environment by actually becoming a part of it. Wear old jeans (no large holes) and a light weight long sleeve shirt and find some old sneakers that you can lace up tight (boots will get sucked off your feet). Be sure to bring insect repellent. We will meet at 7:30 at the parking area just off Deekcreek Drive in Fawn Ridge. This hike is fairly demanding due to high vegetation and deep mud but we will take it slowly. Screaming as you sink into the mud is optional. We will finish by 9:30 PM.

Directions: From Trebein Rd north of New Germany Trebein enter Fawn Ridge on Windsong Trail to Fawn and turn right then almost immediately left on Deercreek. Take Deercreek to its end. Drive through the gate to grassy parking area.
